We had a great day in Kalk Bay - lunch here ...

where we watched waves crashing against the restaurant ...

followed by some walking to explore the textures and colours...








Then shopping up and down alleys ...

On the way back we said hello to a big, friendly dog waiting patiently for its owner ...
and admired this beautiful pink lady .

Words - A Paper Project

Let's just say that I am not too pleased with the result of my fourth paper project. (But I promised to post successes and flops alike.) First of all I couldn't find a wire hanger anywhere, so I had to make my own. (I have renewed respect for our local wire artists ...) Secondly, it just doesn't look as good as the one here. It is very unfair because I tried very hard. (Also, I am being very recycling-conscious and am using up all the leftover scraps of my paper vase and paper mobile projects.)

I even used a stencil to stencil the letters! (People who have seen my handwriting will know why.) I even used the beautiful second-hand thingy-tool which I bought at a recent carboot sale to punch in eyelets!!

Of course once I had tied the letters on to the hanger, I realized that they actually turn so I had to make letters on the backs too. But I couldn't use the stencil because the eyelets were already in and made it all bumpety.

So I lettered the backs myself which was a mistake.

Anyway, the final project is hanging above my desk. I think I may be taking it down soon ...

I recently discovered Esprit Champêtre which is a treasure trove of lovely images - with some of my favourite interior elements: weathered wood, glass, old silver, paper, some greenery - just a pity I don't understand French!

Life Speeds By Like A Dream ...

I would love a pavilion like this in my garden.




It is called the One Day Poem Pavilion.
The light falls through the perforations and at certain times of the year it will translate into different Sijo (Korean) poems.

Each poem consists of 5 lines with each line visible for about an hour or so ...

Paper Flowery Rosette-like Thingies

I have been very busy with Proofreading Projects. Therefore no time for Papery Projects (which tend to be much more interesting). But I photographed these flowers which I made a while ago. I used old magazines, some ribbon, lace and vintage buttons. (I actually mean 2nd-hand buttons, but vintage sounds so much better...)

I have used quite a few for wrapping presents (see above and below).

But mostly I wear them as brooches ...

even on my silver beanie

and my sun hat ...

I'm thinking they might be good for decorating for a spring tea party or something...


Now it must only stop raining ...

The Invasion of the Space Cadets

Now that we are officially SOSP (Sort Of Sans President) I think the time is ripe for an alien invasion or something. Or perhaps the Space Cadets will come to take over! At least, that is what I thought when I received this package in my mail:
But then I realized it was my long-awaited Space Cadets e-zine from enormously talented tinyred (aka Thereza)! Yay!! I love her work - it appeals to my sense of humour, and it is witty & clever. The zine bug bit me a few months ago when I saw an exhibition of self-published small-format zines at the Bell-Roberts gallery. I think my new acquisition might be the start of a collection!

And now there is a space-cadetty voice in my head saying: ... ah ... paper ... aaaah ... project ... mmm ... make ... my ... own ... So dear people, my next project is to make my very own e-zine!! I already have a topic. Now I must just learn to draw. Oh, and I must finish all those other paper projects first. Oh, and the date for release of my third guerilla art work is nigh, so I must do that also.
